Let's has some d'awwww on this Friday. Post your your doges kittehs and other animals. Here's my rats, Kaylee and Jayne (yes I'm a weird nerd who named his rats after Firefly characters.

My buddy breeds rats to feed his snake. They aren't pets and he never handles them. They can bite very hard!

Would you like the rats who are living in the wood pile in my back yard? I'm trying to figure out a way to exterminate them without killing the other woodland creatures. I've got a great horned owl who hangs out in my backyard at night, but he's been unsuccessful so far.

They're great pets if they're raised right. One of mine is really sociable and will happily sit on the couch with me all night or play fetch and run around. The other gets a little frustrated and will nibble sometimes (never bites aggressively) if she isn't interested in being handled that day, I haven't had them long though so she'll get better as I train her.
The ones used as bucks for breeding or as feed tend to be aggressive since they're not treated very well.

I wanna go to the crappy town where my rat's a hero!

He's had some really cuddly ones before.

If you were bred as food you wouldn't be that happy about it either....

Wild rats =/= fancy rats like mine. Do not want. Maybe try cage traps that don't injure the animals, so you can release any other wildlife that gets trapped and get rid of the rats.

Lol, I just posted to GT's furface Friday, so here's Annabelle the grumpyquills and Chevy the Rott mix.

Looks like it's thinking "Why are you oppo-ing instead of giving me attention!"

Based on the one time I had to extract a large mouse from her throat, I don't think our pets would be friends.

That first picture. "Hooman why are you touching me?"

This. Pretty much every time I sit down to Oppo.

It must take some effort to keep her that clean. My grandparents have a fluffy dog that I look after sometimes, one walk and her fur is covered in mud and plant life.

My father threatened to sell my Honda if I didn't get rid of my corn snake.
As much as I love reptiles, I don't want to lose that moment of freedom.

Just turned out my big red/white cat is diabetic, I recently had to start giving him insulin shots twice a day.
If you have cats - escpecially older, obese ones - pay attention to the symptoms (drinking/peeing more, weight loss, etc.)!

Because I'm the weird guy with a ferret:
It's never bitten anyone, and it's doesn't stink THAT bad (as long as you clean the cage often. Don't wash the ferret, but keep the cage clean!), but there are still some people who are afraid of her.
She's a healthy 5 years-old beast named Rage.Why ?
You should see her fight the cat, named Cat :
Ferret's a quarter of the cat's size, but she usually wins.
(and the cat's picture isn't staged; he sits on a doorsill like this often)

They're a little more high-maintenance than most smaller critters, but when they're socialized they're very sweet and cuddly :)
![]() 03/27/2015 at 15:50 |
|
Oh yeah they're really territorial. You can't keep two in the same cage or they'll kill each other in rather gruesome fashion. It'd make short work of my rats.

Did it take much training to be docile, I heard they can be really aggressive if they aren't brought up properly. I knew someone who had one called "longmouse."
![]() 03/27/2015 at 15:53 |

she's probably waiting for me to ask her if she has to go out lol

I bet administering those shots is pretty challenging... I remember just trying to put eye drops on one of my grandparents dogs, it was an ordeal.

rats are really smart aren't they? Someone was just telling me how affectionate they can be?

I actually saw someone with a great dane in the back of a Hyundai Amica once. I was impressed/ concerned for the dog's well being.

Indeed they are. We just found out our hedgie has gone blind in his eye (he had the other removed via surgery). He's almost 3 so he's getting up there in hedgie years.

Riley: 1/2 German shepherd and 1/2 American Staffordshire Terrier:
These two are nuts for each other.
![]() 03/27/2015 at 16:02 |

The amount she fusses over pets I'm sure she'd find the time to raise it properly.
![]() 03/27/2015 at 16:02 |

They can be aggressive if they are not trained, but it depends a lot on the animal's personality from birth.
Friend of mine had one, it was docile with him but tried to bite everyone else.
I actually ''rescued'' her from a little girl who wasn't taking care of her and who let her brothers ''play'' with it by kicking her around. The children's mother offered the ferret to me for nearly free (and a promise to take good care of her). She was 2 years-old when I got her.
At first she was somewhat afraid of men, recoiling to the bottom of the cage when I tried to handle her. However, she was okay with being handled by any female (my exes, my mother, a few friends). I kept at it, petting her through the cage when she was too afraid of me, and eventually I was able to hold her.
Now she's the cuddliest pet I ever had; as soon as she hears me coming, she rushes to the cage's door, I put her on my shoulder and she stays there for hours, rubbing her nose against my neck.
She also enjoys sitting in a hoodie when I go for walks:

I noticed cats really like to sit on top of fridges, my dad's does it all the time too.

Kittehs always get spoiled.
![]() 03/27/2015 at 16:05 |

Yeah they're actually really great pets. I've got one to answer to her name now and she's more than happy to snuggle up in a fold of your clothes and go to sleep when you're sat watching TV. The other is a bit more stubborn, but she's getting better the longer I have her.
![]() 03/27/2015 at 16:06 |
|
I feed mine the same time every day, so they sit on the top shelf of their cage and stare at me that time of the day until I fill their bowl. They love Cheerios (cereal) too so if they smell them they'll sit and stare until you give them some.
![]() 03/27/2015 at 16:07 |
|
Haha, the cats seem like they require a lot of attention.
![]() 03/27/2015 at 16:08 |

It's great for a kid to grow up with a friendly dog, My little brother loves my grandparents dogs, and they love him for dropping crumbs of food they can eat.
![]() 03/27/2015 at 16:09 |

Sounds similar to my rats. They lived in a busy pet store for the first two months of their life, so they were terrified of people when I got them. One only took a week to get used to me, but the other still isn't quite there.

You might be able to call the DEC (Or whatever your state's Environmental conservation thing is called) and they'll probably relocate them.

Ferret's are cute, so are minks. Interesting little creatures they are.

I'm pretty green, but I'd rather they be dead, or owl food. A few years ago, a big ass rat got inside my van and lived there for three days before I was able to trap it. It chewed on my interior and shit all over the place. And I've had them living in my walls, too.

A past roommate had some old rats (8 years-old I think) and they were super friendly to people; you could just let them on your shoulder and they would ride along with you wherever you went.
had a tendency to piss on people, though.
I'll definitely get another ferret when the time comes; probably going to acquire two at the same time, too; they are social creatures, and mine is getting lonely in its cage all day when I'm not around.

Blondie looks half stoned in that pic haha.

Poor fluff, I hope he's managing ok :( my girl's about 3 as well, and has a benign fatty tumor. It's not bothering her and I don't want to put her through surgery unless it is, but I feel bad just seeing it on her :(
![]() 03/27/2015 at 16:17 |

Minks are more feral, though. Not sure if there is a lot of domesticated ones.
Ferrets are descending from minks, but were tamed a few centuries ago, so they are easier to handle.
they also make awesome self-heated scarf.
![]() 03/27/2015 at 16:17 |
|
Yep, 9 and 5.5 years old. They are fantastic dogs.
![]() 03/27/2015 at 16:18 |

One of mine will sit in my jacket pocket while I do stuff around the house, she has trouble clinging on to my shoulder haha.
Mine don't actually pee that often, they don't have proper bladder control though so it can happen.
I'm introducing another rat when I have the time, they like to be kept in groups or they can actually get really ill out of loneliness. I bought a big cage so I could keep up to four, the cage is actually meant for ferrets.
